Where We Live

I haven't always loved decorating and "nesting". I definitely appreciated how beautiful my mom made our home, but it wasn't until I got married that I realized what it means to be a homemaker. There's so much involved and each element adds a sense of comfort and love.

I am so proud of the little apartment that Phil and I call home. I've worked so hard to make it beautiful and comfortable. For posterity sake, I've decided to give a peek into our little one bedroom, one bathroom apartment.

Kitchen
The kitchen is the heart of our little home. We've laughed and had so much fun making food together here. Our stove is old so it took us about a month to figure out that baking anything meant it needed to be about 50 degrees cooler than the recipe said. Let's just say, I've burned a few cookies.

Dining Table
I may be a little obsessive, but this is what our dining table always looks like. It's perpetually set with plates and napkins. (You can't see it in this picture but the napkin rings are adorable owls.) My mom loves plate chargers and pretty place settings, so I must've gotten that from her. I love our art on the wall as well. Those are street paintings from my mission. We've made sure to take pieces of ourselves and incorporate them around the apartment.

Living/Family Room
My Version of a Gallery Wall
The "Work Space"
This is our living room. This is one of my favorite areas. It always seems so bright and airy. The colors make me happy as soon as I walk in the door. Our gallery wall highlights who we are. I've made a mission shadowbox for both Phil and me. The sunset painting is also from Phil's trip to Uganda last Thanksgiving. We also have a copy of "The Family: A Proclamation to the World" and a small picture of the temple.

Obviously we're still newlyweds and have several pictures of ourselves around the house. I'd be embarrassed, except I think Phil looks so cute in them.

Vanity
Shower
Monogrammed Towels
Our bathroom is rather tight. My dearest roommate, Kacie, made those framed maps for us. One is a map of Minnesota and the other Brasil. They both say "I love you" in our mission languages underneath. We used those to decide on the colors, neutrals with accents of red. The monogrammed towels make us feel extra fancy.

Last stop is our small cozy bedroom. I've always wanted white/cream bedding so this was my chance. My mom made the beautiful quilt at the foot of our bed. We played off of that with accents of gold and silver.

The Bedroom
Dresser Wall
I know it's cheesy, but this little apartment is like heaven on earth. Coming home and being with my best friend every day is the best. I'm just now starting to realize how special being a homemaker really is.
