When Robin Comes to Play

Phil's sister, Robin, came to play in P-Town this last weekend. Oh man, did we have a fabulous time. Here are just a few of the highlights.

Robin got in Thursday afternoon and spent some time with Phil in class. After I got home from work, we wanted to show her some of the Provo culture. Luckily, the food truck roundup was going on that night. We headed over and had such a ball. They had pitas and lemonade and gourmet grilled cheese and tamales and donuts. This picture is an attempt to capture the woman in the tamale truck. Obviously I failed, but she was hilarious. She was using the bag of tamales to fan herself and kept yelling out the tiny window "Tamales! Tamales!" Such delight.

Tamales!!
Since Art City Donuts had some pumpkin spice donuts, we just had to get some dessert. I couldn't eat any (My doctor has put me on a new diet... Story for another post) but just having pumpkin spice in the vicinity made me so happy that fall is here. Phil and Robs definitely enjoyed them.

#sugaroverload
We spent the rest of the evening relaxing. Friday was great too! Phil took Robin to campus and showed her all the buildings and even his lab. I was sad to be at work but Phil made sure to take a picture for me.

Robin, meet Brigham.
After I got home from work, we went to an outdoor play in the JFSB courtyard. Oh my gosh, it was so awesome. Normally, I'm not a huge fan of Shakespeare, but this play was fantastic. There were five actors from various acting troops in London and each played multiple roles. They'd switch costumes quickly on stage to portray different characters. It started raining at intermission though. We had to go inside, but we loved it all the same.

Oh Shakespeare...
We decided that we hadn't given Robin enough sugar so we took her to Sodalicious. She's a fan.

Saturday was equally awesome. Phil and Robin went to hike the Y while I cleaned up at home and ran some errands. Luckily I didn't go because it started pouring about 30 minutes after they left. Here's what they looked like at the top.

Maybe They're Related
After Robin came home and cleaned up, we headed up to Salt Lake for the General Women's Session. We went shopping at City Creek and found some cute stuff for both Robin and me. We were tempted by this little gem.

Too Good for Words
Unfortunately, I left our umbrella at City Creek and we had to walk over with only our shopping bags for protection. Luckily there were some nice ladies who let us huddle with them in line, but we still got pretty wet.

The Women's Session was amazing! I feel so blessed to hear from modern leaders who are inspired by God. There were so many pieces of revelation that proved exactly what I needed. It makes me even more excited for General Conference next week.

After driving home in the crazy rain, we got to enjoy Cafe Rio with Phil and some Netflix. Sunday was great too. We took Robin to our ward and then on a walk to the duck pond south of campus. You're never too old to enjoy the duckies.

The weekend passed pretty quickly, but we were so glad that we got to bond with our lovely sister. We're so blessed to have a wonderful family.

As of Late

There has been a lot going on in the Crepeau home lately. This post is the first official photo dump for the blog. Here we go...

Windy Hair, Don't Care
The first piece of news is that we bought me a bike! I have always loved those adorable beach cruisers so a few weeks ago, we went out and got me one. It's lime green and so comfy. After buying it, we went on two rides in two days. Maybe I can get used to the outdoors after all.

He Takes Pictures As We Go...
The second story is about my recent girls' weekend in St. George. My Daddy is a cutie and got my mom tickets to see a play at the Tuacahn for Christmas last year. We finally cashed them in and got to see The Wizard of Oz. Oh my goodness, it was so wonderful. Between flying witches and the incredible set/backdrop, I was in heaven.

That Backdrop Though...
Of course, it wouldn't be a Davis girls' weekend if there wasn't some serious retail therapy involved. St. George was good to my closet.

My New Treasures :)
We spent the rest of the evening eating at Pizza Factory and watching chick flicks. Needless to say, we adored our time in southern Utah. Getting home meant that I had to reorganize the closet, to make room for the new purchases. I somehow got bit by the organizational bug last night, so I color coordinated the entire thing.

Ahhh....
In other news, TODAY IS THE FIRST DAY OF FALL! Fall is my favorite season and I am so excited to eat squash, all things pumpkin and tons of apples. These ones from WinCo have become a staple for Phil and me.

Can't Go Wrong with Honey Crisp
We're also counting down the days to see this lady! Phil's sister, Robin, is coming to stay with us this weekend so we can give her a tour of BYU. We are so happy that we get to spend time with her. Idaho seems really far away sometimes.

She's a Cutie
We have even more to look forward to because these two are getting married in a month! It'll be my first time in Chicago and we're so excited to check it out, especially since Phil applied to multiple medical schools out there.

Phil's Sister, Megan, and Her Fiance, Pat
And last, but certainly not least, on our list of news is Phil's most recent med school interview invitation! He just got an email yesterday saying that he's invited to interview at the University of Washington! I'm so proud of my hubby.

Seattle Bound?
In short, we're happy. Phil and I feel so blessed to be married and have such a wonderful life. Nothing beats being together.

Tender Mercies

One of my favorite phrases in The Book of Mormon is Nephi's reference to "tender mercies". It's the perfect written expression of a personally packaged blessing from heaven.

Elder Bednar said, "We should not underestimate or overlook the power of the Lord’s tender mercies. The simpleness, the sweetness, and the constancy of the tender mercies of the Lord will do much to fortify and protect us in the troubled times in which we do now and will yet live. When words cannot provide the solace we need or express the joy we feel, when it is simply futile to attempt to explain that which is unexplainable, when logic and reason cannot yield adequate understanding about the injustices and inequities of life, when mortal experience and evaluation are insufficient to produce a desired outcome, and when it seems that perhaps we are so totally alone, truly we are blessed by the tender mercies of the Lord and made mighty even unto the power of deliverance."

Yesterday, even though I had a rather pleasant day, I came home incredibly stressed about our financial situation. I was so worried about paying for everything that we have coming up and about having enough money to fly Phil out for more interviews in the coming months. I expressed my concerns to Phil and he tried to comfort me, but I'm not easily comforted when I'm stressed.

This morning when I was getting ready for work, my husband called me. He was so excited and said, "My professor said he has extra money from a grant for the lab so I'm going to get paid!" Keep in mind, Phil spends hours a week in this lab and, until now, it's all been for experience alone. I was so thrilled but it wasn't until I hung up the phone that I realized what had just happened. God heard my cries and knew my worries. He knew the thoughts of my heart and used this moment of concern to teach me a lesson.

Heavenly Father is always there and He uses the seemingly mundane and stressful days of our lives to remind us of His love. He's there. He's shown Himself to me again and I am so grateful for that.

"Tell Us About Yourself..."

Today was the first time of many times that Phil will be asked that question in the next few months. He had his first medical school interview at Wake Forest this morning! We are so excited that he got called in so early; this is the first week that the school is conducting interviews.

He said he really liked the area and made great connections with the doctors who interviewed him. How could you not love this place?

Those Trees Though...

Because I was able to be a visa waiter on my mission in North Carolina, this is one of my top picks. The state is gorgeous and the culture is friendly. I'm a fan, but trying to be unbiased. We'll see how that goes...

P.S. Phil, if you're reading this, I just want you to know how proud I am of you. I am so lucky to be married to such an amazing man.
